Get involved in Ignite Personal Development programme

4 - 6 June 2024, 10 - 5pm, Mile End campus

Ignite is a personal development programme exclusively for School of Engineering & Material Science (SEMS) women & non-binary undergraduate and postgraduate students.

This interactive in-person 3 day programme is designed to equip students with the skills required to accelerate their potential in all areas of life (including academic study, jobs & careers and personal life).

What do students gain?

  • Develop their confidence
  • Identify their values and understand personal brand
  • Set personal and professional goals, and become more assertive
  • Develop their peer network
  • Develop strategies for managing their time and ensuring work / life balance
  • Learn to manage stress and embrace change (where necessary)

Ignite can help students to:

  • Make connections with like-minded students and start to build a community of support
  • Grow confidence through exploring boundary setting and building assertiveness
  • Feel empowered, overcome self-doubt and increase resilience

How to get involved

There are 2 ways to get involved in the programme:

  • As a speaker: Senior professional women attend the programme (approximately one hour) to share their personal journey with advice, hints and tips for students embarking on their career planning.
  • As a panellist: Professional women attend (approximately two hours) to act as panellists, to listen to student presentations, ask questions and tell their story in brief on the last day of the programme.
