Dr Deepshikha Deepshikha, at the School of Engineering and Materials Science, has been awarded The Drapers’ Fund for Innovation in Learning and Teaching for a project, titled 'EduMark AI: AI-Driven Grading and Personalised Student Feedback to Save Educator Time', which aims to revolutionise the assessment and feedback process within higher education through innovative AI technologies.

The Queen Mary Academy commended the project for its strategic alignment and potential to significantly improve educational practices. The EduMark AI project addresses the substantial time commitment required from educators to grade written assessments.

This project supports Queen Mary University of London’s Strategy 2030 by driving educational innovation and excellence. The AI tool aims to enhance educational quality and efficiency, fostering a more responsive and effective learning environment. The findings will be disseminated through publications, conferences, and online platforms, showcasing Queen Mary’s commitment to educational excellence.

This project is being led by Dr Deepshikha from SEMS along with her collaborators Prof Conrad Bessant, Dr Darryn Mitussis, Dr Li Wang, Dr Xinru Deng, Dr Giuseppe Viola, and Dr Mouna Chetehouna across multiple modules. The AI assessment tools and insights gained from this project can be adapted for use in various STEM disciplines and across the schools of Engineering and Material Science, Physical and Chemical Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences, enhancing their impact across different schools and institutes.

Dr Folashade A. Taiwo, Director of the Centre for Research in Engineering and Materials Education comments: “Congratulations to Dr Deepshikha on this achievement, and we look forward to the insightful advancements her project will bring to educational assessment practices”.
