Global VP of Innovation at Molycop, Dr Shelley was visiting to see the development of research the company has sponsored on steel for grinding media.

Molycop is an international supplier of mining consumables and associated products, a technology leader in this field.

Led by Dr Chinnapat Panwisawas and Professor Sir Harry Bhadeshia, the project involves research that ultimately can be used to understand and accelerate the implementation of novel technologies on an industrial scale.

Dr Shelley was given a tour of the Mile End campus from Dr Panwisawas, Prof Bhadeshia and PhD candidate Rajdeep Mondal before they settled into technical discussions and updates.

During his two-day visit, Dr Shelley taught the Queen Mary academics more detail about the technology of Molycop, whilst they in turn explained the work the Queen Mary group has nurtured.

This is not the first time Dr Shelley has visited, all the way from Australia, and it has become tradition to meet on the same bench outside the Queens Building each time.

On his third day in the UK, Prof Bhadeshia introduced Dr Shelley to the cross-institutional work the team are doing with the Materials Science and Metallurgy Department at Cambridge University. The visit included a trip to Fitzbillies café for some traditional British food, the world-famous Eagle Pub and historical sights of Cambridge University.
