The School of Engineering and Materials Science is celebrating a number of achievements in university league tables for 2024, across a range of subjects.

Key successes include ranking as:

  • 4th in the UK for Materials Technology (Complete University Guide 2024).
  • 1st in the UK for graduate prospects in Materials Technology (Complete University Guide 2024).
  • 7th in the UK for Chemical Engineering (Guardian University Guide 2024).
  • 13th in the UK for Manufacturing & Production Engineering (Complete University Guide 2024).
  • 13th in the UK for General Engineering (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024).
  • 2nd in London for Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024).

"It is great that our pioneering skills-based education is having such an impact on the league table performance with so many of our programmes," said Dr James Busfield, Deputy Head of School.

"Particularly pleasing is the number one ranking for graduate prospects in Materials Science. This was the first programme to implement our 'problem-based learning' approach, that is now used throughout all of our degrees. It is clearly helping our students in their early careers.”
