Yiming Zhang, a PhD student with the School of Engineering and Materials Science, has won the Central Research Fund, awarded in December 2008. This award will support the purchase of high performance computing facilities for his PhD project on innovative materials research using artificial intelligence.

Yiming is a 3rd year PhD student fully funded through college research student funding. He was a direct entry in to the second year in Department of Materials in 2003 and graduated with a first class honour degree in 2006 and was awarded the Cookson Prize for the Best 2nd Year Undergraduate Performance by the Department of Materials in 2004.
