How can we make more efficient use of our society's materials? Find out as we welcome two experts to talk about the futuristic use of liquid metals in mobile and satellite technology, as well as how we may be able to power our world with waste heat!

Powering society from waste heat

Dr Oliver Fenwick (Reader in Materials Science)

Two thirds of the energy we produce as a society is lost as waste heat. On top of that, each of us is emitting about 80 W of body heat to the environment. Waste heat is one of the largest energy resources available to us. What if we could tap into this resource? Would it solve our energy problems?

Terminator metals for 6G mobile and Starlink Satellite terminals

Dr James Kelly ( Lecturer in Microwave Antennas)

So, you thought that the terminator movie was pure science fiction? – In this talk you will hear how engineers and scientists at Queen Mary University of London are using terminator like liquid metals to develop high performance components for use in applications including 6G mobile and Starlink Satellite terminals.
