Location: PP: Skeel LT

We are delighted to invite you to attend a talk by Dr Martin Muir from Airbus as part of SEMS seminar series.

Aerospace as a sector is entering a period of unprecedented change. Never before have so many facets of aerospace been challenged as comprehensively as is about to be seen in the next two decades. Sustainability, Urban Air Mobility, Hypersonic, Electrification, Space Democratisation, Pilotless Aircraft, Formation Flight are all new topics for aerospace, and each introduces substantial new challenges which must be understood and accounted for in an already complex and expensive design, development and operational plan must be done without compromising safety at any phase. How can this be done? This presentation will present a picture of Commercial Aerospace Design from mission specification to in-service product contrasting what was done in the last decade to the path of aerospace in the coming decades. The material will focus specifically on the challenges of sustainable aviation and the modelling, simulation and optimisation methods being researched, developed and employed to deliver on our promises of a sustainable future for commercial flight

Dr Martin Muir is a Senior Research Scientist at Airbus Central Research and Technology, a Skywalker for Airbus Blue Sky, a visiting Professor and Chair of the Industrial Advisory Board at Queen Mary University London, a visiting Lecturer at Imperial College London, Chair of the Leeds University Industrial Advisory Board, a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics MDO Technical Committee and a Chartered Engineer with the Royal Aeronautical Society. With 15 years of experience in Aerospace and holding significant expertise in Modelling & Simulation, Multidisciplinary & Multiscale Design Optimisation, Systems Engineering and Additive Manufacturing which have been applied selectively to the design and manufacture of Aircraft, Spacecraft, Rotorcraft, Racing cars, Submarines and Elite Sports equipment.

The seminar will be in person at PP: Skeel LT on Wednesday 15th May 2024 at 15:00 - 16:00. This will be followed by a network event where food and drinks are served.

We look forward to seeing you all there.
