Highlighting the innovative work of early-career researchers in nanoscience and nanotechnology, the latest issue of the Nanoscale journal presents SEMS Senior Lecturer in Materials Science, Dr Dimitrios Papageorgiou’s latest paper on stretchable polymer nanocomposite strain sensors.

The research, first-authored by doctoral student Oliver Tomes, introduces a pioneering model for the piezoresistive response (changes in electrical resistance in response to mechanical stress or strain) of sensors, offering a significant advancement in their calibration and functional range. This development promises to enhance the accuracy and reliability of flexible electronics, with potential applications spanning from wearable technology to advanced robotics.

Dr Papageorgiou's contributions to the field have consistently been at the cutting edge, demonstrating the commitment of the School of Engineering and Materials Science to fostering an environment where innovative research thrives.

The research paper can be accessed at DOI: 10.1039/d3nr05234f, and further details on the thematic issue are available on the Nanoscale website.
